I began with making the 1st set of doors 20inches by 8 feet tall that open in the middle, this was a great way to use odd sizes of wood as I only needed 20inches across. The 2nd door was a bit more challenging because when I made my large shelving unit 3 years ago I did not shave off the plywood so it was sticking out of the frame making doors impossible to close. Did this stop me? oh no I got creative by adding a bottom door 3 feet across by 40inches high. Then I could create top doors that closed in the middle.
I added a creative latch system using a branch that loops through the middle
detailing using small off cuts, reuse and reuse some more
This is the inside of the door, you can see how old the wood is in the middle, years and years of being in the sun, a test of time now in my studio.
did I mention that I am not a carpenter? The detailing on the end created a problem when opening the other door, not enough room between the door frames...so I added a 2x4 inch wood to ad more space.
Tea time, it is great getting inside my project and reflecting on what I have accomplished.
